Detail Information: We’ll be the first to say, we love Ford Rangers. Peak’s president and founder, Nick Psomas, has personally owned around 8 Ford Rangers in his lifetime, so the announcement that the Ford Ranger was returning to the US Market in 2019 caused quite a bit of excitement.
In February 2019, Peak fortunately received one of the first US Spec Rangers delivered. Because of this, we had a bit of a head start on the market and were able to start our build immediately. Our goal: to complete a full Overland build for Overland Expo 2019 in May. The challenge? No one made anything for it. Because of this, we relied heavily on our partners in the industry to achieve this goal.
Our first stop was Eibach in Corona, CA to design and develop a suspension system. In a short time, they were able to develop both the Eibach Pro Truck Stage 1 and Stage 2 suspension systems. As soon as this was completed, the truck was shipped to Rago Fabrication in Kerrville, TX for a host of fabricated items like ditch brackets, bedrack, antenna mounts, skid plates, and rock sliders.
From there the truck was shipped to Relentless Fabrication in Sparks, NV for bumpers. They designed a new hybrid bumper for the Ranger platform and a rear bumper with swingout. We fitted the front bumper with a WARN VR10S winch and a Factor55 Fairlead with Ultrahook. These bumpers offer additional protection and clearance for better approach/departure angles.
From there, the truck was shipped to KC HiLites in California for our lighting program. They prototyped their M-Rack Roof Rack with a KC Gravity Roof Lightbar. Down below we mounted KC Flex Duals on the ditch brackets, a 40” KC Flex Lightbar and KC Amber Flex in the bumper for forward visibility, and a KC Flex Amber as a rear chase light. We also have KC C Series lighting all around the vehicle for camp/outdoor perimeter lighting.
From there the truck came back to our shop for final assembly including our own PEAK 1” diff drop, a set of Baja Kits Boxed Upper Control Arms, Old Man Emu rear leaf pack, and 1” rear blocks. Our partner ROAM Adventure Co sent over their Vagabond XL Rooftop Tent with Annex, 5’ Awning, and Rugged Cases for overhead storage. Out back, we installed a DECKED system full of recovery and camping gear.
Finally, we added a Magnaflow Overland Exhaust, AEV Crestone wheels and 35” Falken Wildpeak MT tires. The truck was unveiled at the expo and we were thrilled with the outcome. It’s not often we get to build a complete truck with almost all prototype parts in 3 months but we knocked it out and was one of our favorite trucks to date.
